04 Mar Welcome to Merrimon-Wynne
What a big night for Raleigh! Donovan’s Dish was chosen to cater the exclusive Merrimon-Wynne grand opening, hosted by Jodi Strenkowski, owner of the The Merrimon-Wynne house. The ribbon-cutting ceremony kicked off the night with Lt. Governor Dan Forrest. Located at 500 N. Blount Street and originally built in 1876, this historic masterpiece is now part of the Blount Street Commons in downtown, serving as a miraculous wedding and event venue. Jodi purchased the home in 2013 and restored it with her own personal touch. Hundreds of experts involved in the wedding industry, along with brides and any others who expressed interest in the venue, were invited to attend this thrilling event. How exciting!
Jodi was recently married in September to her husband, John, and fulfilled her dream of opening an incredible wedding venue. Simply Put Vintage and Party Reflections provided all of the rentals needed to decorate and furnish the house, and photographer Tim Willoughby took all of the beautiful pictures. Live music by Sidecar Social Curb and DJ Joe Burn kept the crowd on their feet!
The remarkable flower arrangements throughout the venue were provided by Fresh Affairs. Donovan’s Dish was given the honor of filling the bellies of all the hungry guests. Here is head chef TJ arranging the buffet display before night began:
This station was filled with a Bacon and Stilton Hot Dip and a Not Your Average Spinach and Artichoke dip, which were both served with lightly toasted pita. The Artisan Cheese Tray contained Manchengo, Irish Dubliner, and Ashe Co. Cheddar – I don’t know which one was more delicious! The Caprese Skewers were out of this world with their fresh basil and sweet balsamic drizzle.
Are you hungry yet?
The mouth-watering goodness didn’t stop here, however. Our Signature Service staff distributed a collection of shrimp and grit cakes, bourbon meatballs, and stuffed mushrooms. The fried green tomatoes’ pimento cheese dollop and panko were unforgettable. Oh, and let’s not forget about the crowd favorite – mini chicken and waffles. Yes, you heard me right. The southern fried chicken, Belgium waffle and honey bourbon Dijon glaze made them simply irresistible.
Our signature shaved ham rolls were passed as a Late Night Reboot, keeping the guests’ palates craving more culinary treats.
All of these delights were served throughout the heated tent as well, which was placed on the permanent patio beside the venue. It was decorated with elegant chandeliers and furniture – breathtaking to say the least! The expresso and signature cocktails kept everyone refreshed, if you know what I mean.
A big round of applause to Chef TJ and all the others who made the night a huge success. We look forward to seeing all the future brides and grooms begin their journey together at the Merrimon-Wynne house!
Cheers!
